Description

This photoshoot is special, if only because it is not for a wedding or a debut. I'd like to call it boudouir with a twist, because being a mother definitely should not stop any woman from having a photoshoot that makes her feel beautiful and empowered. This photoshoot features a mother, Maiko, and her son, Walter, to celebrate many things - among them, the miracle that is Walter, who she wished for and prayed for a very long time. After finally giving birth to Walter, Maiko experienced the challenges that a lot of new moms face, especially breastfeeding, but she did not waver because she loved her son and wanted him to be exclusively breastfed for as long as she is able to.

Along the way, Maiko felt like she lost herself - she wasn't able to care for herself as much as she used to and felt that she wasn't pretty anymore. This photoshoot serves as a reminder of her worth, that she is still beautiful inside and out, that she is strong and can conquer anything. It also celebrates breastfeeding, and why women should not be shamed or made to feel guilty when she has to breastfeed her child when needed, especially in public.
Maiko's 30th birthday photoshoot is something that I would also call a boudouir...

I admire Maiko for her strength and for her ability to rise through adversity. I admire her for having the guts to put herself out there. I wanted the photoshoot to highlight her beauty as a woman and as a mother, and I wanted the shots to have the right amount of risque without being too provocative. I am happy that Maiko was such a natural in front of the camera - I'll let the photo speak for themselves.
